Recently I had what I would describe as a typical UFO encounter. I was standing in the dark in a paddock on my mum’s property in Stanthorpe, Queensland, with my mum and my friend Dave after we had had a few wines. The US government already ran a short-lived ‘X-Files’ office in the Obama-era, which studied military reports about UFO sightings. Funding for the programme allegedly dried up in 2012, but the navy now wants this effort to be revitalised.
Since 2014, UFOs have intruded upon military airspace as often as several times per month, a military official told the Washington Post.
A recent uptick in sightings of unidentified flying objects – or as the military calls them, “unexplained aerial phenomena” – prompted the US Navy to draft formal procedures for pilots to document encounters, a corrective measure that former officials say is long overdue.
