A video posted by an Ontario hunter depicting mysterious and blood-curdling screams echoing from the woods have some enthusiasts convinced it was something supernatural.

Gino Meekis, a hunter who lives near Sioux Lookout in Northern Ontario, recorded the video on his phone on Oct. 3 while he was out hunting grouse with his wife and grandson, about 45 kilometres away from the town.
‘We walked down a trail to see if we can find a bird, and on our way back to the vehicle, it started. When it let out the first scream, I thought it was a moose, but my mind changed when it screamed again and again,” Meekis told Vice.
In his post, Meekis said the sound — which appeared to resemble a loud, echoing howl — continued for about five minutes, and he managed to capture two videos during that time. In the video, his grandson is heard replying to the cries with howls of his own.
When asked by Vice, a media relations officer for Ontario’s Ministry of Resources and Forestry said her team couldn’t exactly pinpoint the source of the sounds.
“Our biologists say it could be a larger mammal–for example a wolf–but because it’s a considerable distance from the recorder there is no way to know for sure,” Jolanta Kowalski told Vice in an email.
“I’ve heard many different animals in the wild but nothing like this. I grew up hunting with my grandfather for the first 12 years of my life,” Meekis said.
In 2015, CTV News reported that residents of Alert Bay, B.C., were hearing similar strange noises. A few residents posited that the noises came from a sasquatch, coming to that unlikely conclusion because the island where the howls were heard doesn’t house any large mammals.
In July, the FBI made some letters public which indicated the organization had, in the 1970s, investigated and analyzed hair samples related to a bigfoot sighting. They determined the hair originated from a deer.
