It’s now known that the 13,000-foot-high, 11-mile-wide Ahuna Mons mountain on Ceres is solid ice, providing evidence that water has been, or is now, beneath the Ceres surface. In the September 2, 2016 issue of Science, Jean-Philippe Combe, Ph.D., a remote sensing and spectroscopy scientist at the Bear Fight Institute in Winthrop, Washington, reports the first and only confirmed detection of water ice on the surface of the dwarf planet in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
