Could we one day wear our tech inside our bodies? Google recently filed a patent for a device that  would be injected directly into your eye. That’s right, electronics in your eye.

While your mind might first go to something like Google Glass, the purpose of the device is actually a bit simpler: it would improve how you see.  The idea being you might get an injection with the device to improve your less-than-perfect eyesight rather than opting to purchase contact lenses or get laser surgery.

Here’s how Google describes the device in its patent application:

“An intra-ocular device includes an electronic lens that can be controlled to control the overall optical power of the device. The device can be installed within a flexible polymeric material shaped to conform to the inside surface of a lens capsule of an eye. Accommodation forces applied to the device and/or polymeric material via the lens capsule can cause a change in the optical power of the device and/or polymeric material.”
