Hillary Clinton campaign chair John Podesta doubled down Thursday on Clinton’s promise to declassify UFO-related files if she wins November’s election.

“If she’s elected president, when she gets into office, she’ll ask for as many records as the United States federal government has to be declassified. I think that’s a commitment she intends to keep and that I intend to hold her to,” Podesta told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Clinton has said in the past that Podesta, a sci-fi fan who previously served as Bill Clinton’s chief of staff, encouraged her to make the promise.

“He has made me personally pledge we are going to get the information out,” Clinton told a reporter with New Hampshire’s Conway Daily Sun in January. “One way or another. Maybe we could have, like, a task force to go to Area 51.”

She reiterated her stance in a March appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Bill Clinton previously told Kimmel he had reviewed files related to Area 51 and UFOs around the anniversary of Roswell, and found nothing of note.

“I’m going to do it again,” Hillary told Kimmel. “I want to go into those files and, hopefully, make as much of that public as possible. If there’s nothing there, let’s tell people there’s nothing there. If there is something there, unless it’s a threat to national security, I think we ought to share it with the public.”

Clinton is aware of the robust interest in the government’s knowledge of alien life. She has said in the past that the largest share of Freedom of Information Act requests made to the Bill Clinton Presidential Library concerns information on UFOs.

Podesta told Tapper Thursday that it’s time those questions are answered. “I think the U.S. government could do a much better job in answering the legitimate questions that people have with what’s going on with unidentified aerial phenomena. The American people can handle the truth, so they should do a thorough search and open it up.”
